Classroom Innovation Visible at Letcher Elementary

How can classroom teachers be creative and innovative without spending a lot of money?  Teachers at Letcher Elementary in Letcher County have discovered a variety of methods to be inventive on a limited budget.

Several teachers are working on classroom redesign by creating flexible work surfaces, unusual seating and utilizing space in an assortment of ways.  The height of tables has been raised by using homemade piping.  IPEVO document cameras, along with classroom projectors, are turning any available flat surface into an interactive smart board.

Students are engaging with content, teachers and each other through Chromebooks.  Students are involved with self-assessments, thus enabling both teachers and themselves to develop a growth mindset.  Online resources, suchas GoNoodle, are being utilized to capitalize on brain-based teaching and learning.  By being a CT4GC school and implementing co-teaching strategies, many students are receiving nontraditional instructional in a variety of settings and formats.  Teachers are currently involved in a three phase training series with a certified Google Classroom trainer. This will enable teachers to successfully utilize the available resources to further develop digital literacy in our students.
