Novel QFT – Missing May
Prior to reading, students were given a picture of the book cover and a statement from the book as their QFocus. The statement was a quote related to Summer – the main character – describing how eating had never been a joy for her and the fact that she “felt like a homework assignment.”
We do individual QFT’s initially, then come together in small group to prioritize and share.
The picture shows examples of prioritized student questions from the small groups. Their questions range from “why does she feel this way?”to “what does the statement mean?” to “has she been treated badly?”
Out of all the novels I’ve incorporated, this has been the easiest in which to engage student. I attribute much of the success to beginning activation of engagement from QFT.
