As my year is nearing a close and I look back at my goal with my grant, I am beyond pleased with the outcome! My grant for personal art supplies has provided exactly what my students needed- safe access to materials without the worry of COVID or other viruses. I paired my grant with another from the Youth Service Center and provided ALL students with journals, watercolors, pencils, erasers and brushes.

100% of my students said they felt safer with their own supplies and not having to share them. Many carried them in their bags rather than store them in the room. They told me they were using them at home.

Over the course of the year, I have taught 320 students through nine-week sessions. 100% of those students were excited to receive supplies they could keep. Most were shocked!

When asked how many use these supplies and journals outside of class, 228/320 said yes.

When asked if they used them to help with stress and anxiety 176/320 said yes.

I am so thankful for KVEC and the opportunity this has provided for my students.

Since then, there have been some desperately needed renovations but the school continues to carry the feel of the old style “institution”. We need a new school but the “nickle tax” needed to fund that was voted down. Our students feel like they are not important. The students lack morale and that feeds o…Read More
