A formative assessment strategy that I use in my classroom is Kahoot! My students are 1:1 with chromebooks which makes this strategy easy to implement and fun for my students. Kahoot! is a tool for using technology to administer quizzes. It is a game based classroom response system played by the whole class in real time. Multiple-choice questions are projected on the screen and students answer the questions with their smartphone, tablet or computer. Kahoot! Can be used with any content and any grade level. Teachers may make their own quizzes or use one that has been made by other educators.
Students love to play Kahoot! They think they are playing a game, but in reality they are doing Math. Not only do I use Kahoot! As a formative assessment tool, but also as a review for students. Once students complete the Kahoot! I am able to see which questions they answered correctly/incorrect answers. This allows me to quickly assess students understanding of the concepts taught that day.
