Jackson Independent School’s Senior level Community Problem Solving project focuses on establishing a teen prevention council and nourishing a new school environment. Project LookUp has included students completing training and implementing campaigns through the Sources of Strength curriculum as well as designing campaigns of their own. Students create video PSA’s that are shared throughout the school and social media sites that promote positive messages and connect students to resources. Students have designed positive designs to paint on the ceiling tiles of the school to remind their fellow students to just “look up” when they need encouragement. The Teen Prevention Council also advocates for better mental health resources funding in schools and prepares lessons to share with their younger peers about prevention topics. This group presented at the ARI Fire Summit and now has so many new ideas to solve problems in our community!
