I am excited to get this new year started with the best students and staff in Mrs. Wrights Life Management Classroom. I have learned so much in such a short time and everyday it seems to be getting better. Life Management class makes my day better because it gives me skills I can use in and outside of school. I enjoy the positive environment and the way everyone supports each other, which makes the class feel welcoming. Each day I leave feeling like I have learned something new that will help me in the real world, and that makes the class one of the best parts of my day.

Good evening! My name is Angelica Huff and I am a peer mentor with Mrs.Wrights Life Management class. Mrs.Wright, her students, and I traveled to Carl D. Perkins on Thursday, September 27. I had the opportunity to tour the school and see the opportunities that these students could have after graduating high school. We toured their cosmetology school, dorm rooms, daycare facility, and even their in-house cafe. This was a wonderful experience and opportunity to see what these students' lives after high school may look like.

2024-2025 Peer Mentor Program

Hello, my name is Esther Wright, I am so sorry for a late post for this year, but I am so excited to get this year started. I have 7 peer mentors working with me right now and I can honestly say they are great? We have many trips scheduled one for tomorrow will be the "field day" and my peer mentors will be attending. As we look ahead to 2024-25 year, the role of peer mentors in educational and community settings is more crucial than ever. These individuals provide guidance, support, and encouragement to their peers, fostering a positive environment for personal and academic growth. To enhance the effectiveness of peer mentoring, it is essential to implement structured support systems, training programs, and resources tailored to their needs. By establishing clear objectives, providing comprehensive training, ensuring ongoing support, and creating a sense of community, we can empower peer mentors to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their mentees. The investment in these strategies will not only benefit the mentors but will also lead to a stronger more resilient community of learners. I am so glad to be a part of this program and look forward to doing the best to benefit my mentors with my students. Have a great year everyone!

Transition 12-13-23

Dr. Will Kayatin held a Transition Workshop on December 13, 2023. As Dr. Kayatin said, our students experienced state-of-the art technology as as high school student (Virtual Reality). The Virtual Reality experiences our students seemed to enjoy the most was boxing, roller coaster, and beat saber.

East Ridge students attended a Transition Conference on October 13, 2023 at Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg. The majority of my students attended the nursing, visual communications, and skilled trades sessions. We have attended the Transition Conferences for the past several years and I believe they are great opportunities for my students. Students not only get to spend the day on a community college campus, but they also are exposed to the many courses/degrees Big Sandy has to offer.

Dr. Will Kayatin held a Transition Workshop for our students at East Ridge on September 22, 2023. He demonstrated the many ways AI can be used. Students chose topics they wanted to learn more about and also created AI generated art. Dr. Kayatin also prepared students for the Transition Conference they attended at Big Sandy Community & Technical College on October 13, 2023.

December Transition

Dr. Kayatin came to do the monthly workshop. Unfortunately, I could not attend as my child had a stomach bug. However, when I came back to school the students talked to me about it and said they could play with the VR and learn about Virtual Reality. One student said she was able to ride a roller coaster. This is important because she has never ridden a roller coaster before and said because of VR and the advancement of technology she got to experience that and see how that would be in real life. We discussed the opportunities people can have due to the advancement of technology and how technology will only increase and get more advanced. We talked about jobs that people can do in technology, coding, and computer programming.
