Some students are wanting to do collection of poems for their project or one epic poem and have some illustrations to go with it, would this be acceptable?

Hi Sara! I agree 100% with Kelli. Just yesterday I was at Magoffin County High School and this same question came up. Here’s what I would like to see (if this is ok with you, and your student). Shel Silverstein is a great example of how to make poetry and illustrations work together. All of his work have both of these elements in them. “The Giving Tree”, “A Light in the Attic”, etc. I would reference Shel’s work so you could show this to your student.
We want this to be student choice. If that is what they choose that will be fine. However, our instruction may not have a lot of support for poetry. The teacher could fill in the gaps.
