Good morning fellow ruralites. Hmmmm, that doesn’t sound very rural. How about, good morning neighbors? Friends? Colleagues? Journeymen? If you’ll forgive the slight sexist direction of journeyMEN, the term seems to describe me and perhaps you as we begin in earnest this pursuit of learning more AND THEN DOING MORE in rural education. One definition of journeyman states, “A journeyman is an individual who has completed an apprenticeship and is fully educated in a trade or craft, but not yet a master.” That’s where I sense I am related to rural education. I have the last part (i.e., education) down pretty good, but the rural part puts me in the apprentice. I can’t think of any others with whom I’d rather make this journey.
