I’m a Spanish 1A student that has been taking this class for a period of 3 months.
Dia de los Muertos is two days dedicated to celebrating the dead. People of the lost loved ones gather together and do many things for the them. They first clean and wash the graves and then they decorate the graves with flowers, food, and much more. People lay out these things on the grave for the spirits to come and collect. People believe that during this time of celebration spirits come back to their graves and enjoy all that has been put out for them.

There are many things that independently represent Dia de los Muertos. The marigold flower is a great example because people commonly lay these at the graves of loved ones. There is also a certain bread that is only made during Dia de los Muertos, and is also laid upon the graves of the dead. Instead of mourning the dead, people rather celebrate the moving on of spirits. Everyone celebrates/parties during this holiday to show their love of the lost.
