Math 1 year, 3 months agoMy students seem to struggle with number sense. I try to use the website http://www.estimation180.com as a Bellringer. It uses a visual representation to allow students to estimate, and I sometimes require students to justify their estimate to promote math conversations.

Nice. Visual, real world examples are the best. Some students may have actually filled a condiment cup with ketchup before – it’s definitely something they could try themselves if they wanted to test it out. What grade do you teach?

Different forms of equations are presented to promote students to solve the systems using a variety of methods. I make my students at least solved 2 equations using graphing, substitution, and elimination. This is owned and created by me. Feel free to use or change anyway…-

Math 1 year, 4 months agoHere is an activity my 7th grade completed while working on box plots. During the activity, students where placed in groups and each group was given a partner group. Each partner group was given one of the two prompts that were attached. Once students had an answer, the partner groups would switch and proof read the other other groups response.… -

Math 1 year, 4 months agoAttached is a word wall for 8th grade vocabulary ready to print and hang as you do each unit. I do not own any of the images, some were created using word equations but most are good google images that with some modification illustrate the definition of essential vocabulary.-

Math 1 year, 4 months agoI have created a resource with many CCS aligned extended response questions and short answer questions. Each page has a different standard and question set. The last page is a copy of the ERQ gridded response sheet typically used in KPREP.-
I especially like the question with 7.EE.3 – having students reason between two different methods and two different answers to determine which is correct, why, and where any mistakes were made – that’s rich.

For a project I allowed my students to find a building or item that they feel would be something that they could create a scale model of. This allows for creativity…-
Wow – so many different types of models – that’s so great! (Love Mr. Fredricksen’s house) I could see students learning almost as much from examining differences in each other’s models as creating their own.

Math 1 year, 4 months agoA little late with the post about Pi Day, but my students were never explained how pi came to be so we had an activity that allowed them to see that you get close (although not perfect) to pi by dividing your circumference by your diameter. This activity helped a lot of students get an understanding as to what pi is and why it is so beneficial…-
When students discover the relationship between circumference and diameter for themselves they understand it so much better – thanks for sharing!

We re-used the skills we learned while making our own haunted or fall house when we created our Christmas villages. This could be used for any seasonal activity.…-
