Where I’m From
I am from homework every night, procrastination, and late nights.
I am from the two story, green house that holds childhood memories.
I am from the Evergreen trees
The massive oaks
That stand tall and strong like the mountains in my hometown.
I am from loud Christmas Eves and laughter.
From my mom and her wiseness ,
I am from “you need to study more” and “I am proud of you”
I am from waking up on Sunday mornings and going to the small
Baptist church down the road.
From life lessons and secret passwords.
I’m from the small town of Harlan County known for southern cooking
like cornbread and soup beans.
From a grandfather that gives me life, long advice and stories from
I am from fragments, cold autumn nights, and the faint smell of wood smoke.
I could hardly ask to be from more.
