Mathematical Vocabulary Application
The tool for which I based my action research project on was Explaining Solutions from the Tools for Thoughtful Assessment. This tool has enabled my students to grow and develop their written and verbal communication skills by accurately describing their reasoning using appropriate mathematical terminology. Students were to build their skill level and increase critical thinking and analyzation techniques by consistently describing their thoughts on both paper and on their chrome books and then verbally. Fluency of terminology within the writing was reiterated with peer review and discussed as a whole class to help students learn from one another and take pride and ownership of their work and the development of these skills. The data was profound in that students increased their use of accurate vocabulary terminology by 3x the amount shown on the first day by the end of the research.
