Hello, I am Trista Phillips from Pike Central High School. I have been a peer tutor with the life management class. The opportunity to work with these students has been a blessing and a remarkable way to connect and help these students everyday. Seeing their smiling faces everyday makes my day so much better. Watching these students progress in their social skills, vocabulary, and knowledge makes me genuinely proud to be working with these students. I would like to thank Dr. Will for this amazing opportunity this year.

Hello All!

I hope this message finds you well and everyone is doing great in the new year! Just wanted to touch base since it has been a bit since I've posted. Things are going well with my students and peer tutors. We even gained 2 new peer tutors this semester! It is always great to see the program expand. We are in the beginning stages of planning our peer tutor dance that they always coordinate for them and my students. While we usually do this in October around HOCO, we are shooting for something in early spring since we had a late start due to the flood. Let me know how things are going for you all and what is going on in your classroom!

Blessings,

Sara

I’m so excited to get to work with such amazing and kind-hearted kids. This class allows me to connect and include these students in my everyday life, and I even get to form bonds with them. Creating little surprises for them just to see them smile makes my day. It means the world to me to be able to spend time with others and make them smile, so I’m proud to say and be a member of peer tutoring.

My class and I helped the students in class with writing and reading as we read a short story and helped them pull details from the story to write down the key points-Braden Jarvis, pike county central high school

Hello, I am Trista Phillips, I am a student at Pike Central High School, I work with the life management class. This week we have worked on inferences, fables, and conflict. We read stories and asked questions about the stories. The class has learned to find the clues in a text to make an inference. The students have also learned to identify the conflict among characters in a story.

My name is Mallory Lester and at Pike County Central, we've been working on conflict and inferences. I’ve been working with the students, reading and asking them questions. Today, we are learning about fables and doing a coloring sheet. It’s been fun and exciting helping around and teaching them these things.

Hello, I am Larra Jones from Pike County Central High Schools peer tutoring program. This week we have been working with the students on conflicts in a story, how to make inferences in different texts, and learning what fables are. With the first class, we do a one on one with the students, following along with the story and picking questions. With the second class, the students usually read the story and we have a discussion about it. They can read the questions and answer choices, talk about them to come to a conclusion and pick the one that they think is correct.

I’m Jade’n Thacker from Pike County Central High School. I haven’t been a peer tutoring for long, but I can already tell the change it has made to my life. They have kept a constant smile on my face; they’ve even inspired my career choice. I enjoy doing activities with them and even just having a conversation with them. They are all just such amazing people. This class has benefited me and them in so many ways. I wish I could take this class a lot more.

Hello, my name is Breanna Miller and I'm a senior at PCCHS. I joined the peer tutoring program here at PC this year. At first, I was scared and honestly didn't know what to expect. Now I am so grateful I decided to join this program. Not only have I learned so very much in a short period of time, I've made actual connections with my peers. I've learned how to communicate in different ways with my peers who have learning and communication difficulties. I truly enjoy seeing my new friends in the hallways, and in passing and seeing the smiles on their faces. The peer tutoring program has helped me realize my true passion. I wish to become a Life Management teacher so I continue to create and help my peers.

Hey Guys!

Hope everyone is doing well. We are working on Valentine's Day activities in my class with my peer tutors. Also, it's that time of year again for prom plans to begin. I have at least a couple of students that attend every year and with the peer tutoring program it is so awesome to watch the friendships they build and the experiences that they have with not only adult support, but with same age peers doing typical high school activities. It's true organic friendships and experiences. We also have a peer HOCO in the fall every year that the peer tutors plan and put together for my students that is just for them and the peer tutors.

Do any of you have any activities like this? How many of your students attend the school wide prom at your school?
