Transition
The students at ERHS who are participating in this transition pilot program are enjoying what the program has to offer. In September we were able to take the students to Big Sandy Community and Technical College Prestonsburg, KY campus. Our students were very excited to tour a college campus. Our students participated in several different seminars to help prepare them for life after high school. After this trip many of our students talked about their goals after completing high school. This trip allowed them to see that they could be successful in a college environment.
The next KVEC event our students were able to attend was flying drones at our high school. Dr. Kayatin and his colleagues brought drones to our school, and allowed our students to fly them individually. This helped boost many of our students' confidence in themselves, and it peaked their interest in drone services. The students were surprised at how easy it was to fly the drone and they were proud of themselves for stepping out of their comfort zone to fly them in front of their peers.
During the drone flying simulation we meet with a representative from Carl D. Perkins Vocational training center. We were invited to bring our students down for a tour of the center. We accepted the invitation and took many of our students to the center. While we were there the students saw and learned about many of the programs that were offered by the facility. Several of our students were interested in the center after we toured the facility.
At ERHS we constantly talk with our students' about their plans after graduating high school. We talk about the importance of test scores, and maintaining their motivation to want better for themselves.
