We have been able to turn our classroom into an alternative seating environment that promotes freedom of choice, student responsibility, and collaboration. Students have been wearing pedometers to track the number of steps taken each day in an alternative setting. We will then move to a more traditional setting and record our data again. Students will determine, by the number of steps taken daily in each classroom, which seating arrangement is best for physical activity during the school day.
