On The Job Training

The area of focus for our Careers Class at PHS is to introduce and prepare our students to find and become successful in their future careers. One way we do this is through internships or partnerships with our community. We have worked with our local newspapers for the last few years. What we would like to do this year is have our students interested in journalism and photography to take pictures of school activities and events and submit them for publication in our local papers, The Paintsville Herald, The Big Sandy News and allaroundpaintsville.com. These media outlets are very interested in allowing our students to partner with them to tell our school’s story. This will give our students real world experience in the newspaper and media career path. They will be forced to produce high quality work and meet strict deadlines. The success of this project will be evidenced by the publication our students receive, as well as feedback and advice from our community partners. The students will begin working with the newspapers as soon as classes begin. We would like to outfit our students with quality digital cameras and memory cards, so they can check them out and attend school events.
