Show Me A Story: Puppets in the Library
For several years now, I have integrated the use of puppetry with various library classes to teach story elements and writing skills. In the past, I have improvised by using library chairs draped with black sheets. This has been problematic because the fabric slips off the chairs and the students have to crouch down behind them and can still be seen by the audience. It also makes it difficult for them to communicate with each other during a performance and doesn’t allow for the use of a scenic backdrop. The Innovation Grant has made it possible for me to purchase a portable, adjustable puppet stage, several backdrops and a wider variety of puppets. I’m excited to see what stories my students will create and perform!
