Taking Care of Business –EVERYDAY!
Students struggle with common “real-life” situations, such as determining how much taxes will be added to their Wal Mart bill, or how much interest they will have to pay when they borrow money from a bank to buy their car. When they get a job, where will they keep their money? How will they know how much money they have? It is my job as their teacher to explain the importance of these basic life issues and help them to understand that importance, but most importantly, know how to handle the issues when they are faced with those situations. I feel that a school “store” filled with common student necessities and things of interest would benefit my finance students in the Administration Support Pathway. The store would be ran by finance / accounting, marketing, and business communications students, supervised by myself, with students taking shifts each week. Students would keep up with inventory, stocking shelves, balancing the workbook, and keeping a cash drawer that would be counted and balanced at the end of each shift completed by the student that was working. The store would be open to all students who attend the Knott County ATC. I feel this strategy would introduce the work field to my students, as well as give them hands on activities to help enhance the importance of daily transactions they will face in every day life.
