I’m so thankful that we have a great relationship with our local radio station. They have allowed us to come in and share our school’s story. As we have grown and changed, they allowed us again to come in and share an updated version of our story. They also sent us the file so we could post to various social media platforms. I encourage you to…[Read more]

I LOVE the kids in the supermarket! What a wonderful idea. I’m going to steal it, for sure!
-
Steal all you want to! I have the handout to go with it on google drive if you would like me to share it with you! I may even put it on teacher pay teachers for free!
-
That would be great, Jennifer. Dixie.combs@jacksonind.kyschools.us. Have a wonderful break!
-
Love the video, especially all the focus on the kids!

Flat Gap Story-
Melissa Pennington was having trouble posting her story. Jacob got it up for her. Listen to the Flat Gap kids talk about their school! Awesome!
-
I love this! The students are so proud and excited sounding. This is great. Wonderful things are happening at your school!
-
They sound very confident speaking about their school. Their pride is in their voices.

LMS has created a Parent Support Group in an effort to encourage parental involvement. Our first meeting was not the response that we envisioned. After reflecting on our first meeting, we concluded the time needed to be changed so more parents could participate. We felt that the plan we had for it was strong so we did not revisit our initial idea.
-
Our second Parent Support Group meeting was much more successful because of the time change. Participating parents expressed their gratitude towards the time change.
-
I hope we have a big turnout of parents for our Polar Express night. It’s tough to get parents in to middle and high schools.
-
I agree. We have tried and tried. Even had food for the majority of the events.
-
-
Family engagement is a struggle, but meeting parents where they are has helped us. We find success in getting folks engaged through home visits that are friendly and consist of topics outside of attendance.

Okay folks, I need a little help. I’m trying to attach some media files, but it won’t let me. Thanks.
-
You should be able to click the camera/music note and attach anything from your saved files.
-
I’ve save videos, pictures, and an mp3 file that I want to upload. It’s showing none of them.
-
Melissa
You can always email to me and I will get them posted. If I can’t I have access to the Holler Team and they can help!
-
Try saving them to your desktop so they are easier to find. When you click the button to upload, make sure your file type is changed to all files and not just custom files.
-
I’ll try thank you!

We are planning on having a Writing Community Night in the Spring. We had so many things happening in the Fall, that we decided to wait and have it after Christmas Break. To date, I have began contacting the community looking for specific involvement in the writing night. Attached is my flyer.
The plan is to also push out on social media and…
-
Great idea Jessica! Love the Flyer! You can push that out over social media and give out paper copies at school and local businesses.
-
I am getting more excited about the event. Just got approved with the Principal a Spring Date. We will be having this event on March 20th from 5:00-6:30.
-
Great!
-
I love this idea! Please let us know how this goes, because I would love to try this!
-
I can’t wait to hear how it goes!

Reflecting on our Community Theory of Action plan: Including data sharing with school parties has been very positive. It is encouraging to hear Students read their goals and explain their progress. It seems to have boosted their self pride and holds them accountable on a personal level as they are responsible for relaying this information.…[Read more]

Such a blessing to watch the students I coach grow with confidence and to gain more focus on their goals.
-
Teamwork!!
-
I’ve heard wonderful feedback about data sharing.

-
Love the idea of community sharing during party days! The community/parents are already there. Use this to our benefit. We may be borrowing this idea!

When I am out in the county doing home visits, I love seeing this place. so unique.

Are there some old one-room schools down your way?
-
My mom taught in a one room school for 3 year. Grades K-8. She always talked about the boys shoveling coal for the coal stove to keep them warm in the winter! Can’t wait to see your documentary!

Community Engagement
Public Holler 1 hour, 8 minutes ago
The Community Engagement holler is dedicated to the development of a school – community resource matrix that will firmly connect the school and community to learning targets and focuses on matching needs to available resources. Through this work we hope to increase human capitol investment in learning.
