With the KVEC’s generous innovation reward, Salyersville Grade School now hosts a journalism class for eager students who are inspired to write with a purpose! Through an application and interview process, new 6th grade team members work together, in collaboration with their school and teacher, to create articles for their local Salyersville Independent and Eagle Times newspaper. I am grateful for this innovation reward as my students who enjoy writing can bring their writing to life and find it purposeful. The title of my project is Eagle Times. With my reward, I will purchase four Chromebooks and one iPad, all of which are useful tools for students to create their own articles for the newspaper. The iPad will also be used for photo collections to add to their articles. I feel that journalism will inspire students to find enjoyment in the writing process and instill their creativity. What better way to inspire a child, than to see their own published writing in the local Salyersville Independent! Much gratitude to KVEC for investing in our youth to dig deep into their creativity!
