My name is Tyler Little and I am an ARI mini grant recipient and STEM Fellow. My grant went towards the purchase of the Robotslab Math Basketball. The idea behind my grant was to incorporate mathematical lessons with a real world application of basketball in my classroom. The ball is capable of bringing to life both physics and math concepts. It was such a pleasure to see my students engaged in the learning of mathematical content such as parabolas. No longer did we just draw pictures of balls that took parabolic paths, we were able to pass/shoot the math basketball and track its parabolic path and model its equation. The ball has really sparked an interest in my math classroom by making authentic connections between math and play for the students. I am so appreciative for the ARI grant and all that it has helped me with this previous year in teaching!
