Hello everyone. Was very impressed with the students’ work at Emmalena Elementary yesterday! Had a couple questions come in concerning paper size during the last session (Session 4, Week 4) but it was too late for me to answer while we were all still ‘Live’. Going to address those here. Also, be sure to check out the ‘Forum’, and the ‘Documents’ section of this “Art Gallery Workshop” holler.

To address the questions! First, on paper size. The binding machine we have can glue the spine of a book that is 8.5×11 or smaller. As long as your book isn’t over 8.5×11, then we are ok. Your finished pages should be this size, or smaller. You can choose to have your book orientated as a ‘landscape’ format, or a ‘portrait’. Either way is fine. Just keep in mind the maximum size we can bind.

Another question concerned the spine, or gutter of a book. This is a good question! See, every book when it is ‘bound’ has parts of each page that is closest to the ‘spine’ of the book. Be careful to not place the words of your book, or pages, real close to the part of the page that is going to be closest to the spine. The words might appear too close to where we bind the book, making it difficult to see what’s there. Same goes for your artwork. Be sure to place very important parts of your drawing far enough away from where the book is ‘bound’ on each page to avoid that important part of your page being too close to the spine area… making it so that it’s difficult to see.

Post any questions you might have here on the home section to the workshop, or, create your own forum by clicking on the ‘forum’ section above.

Thanks! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!
