There are at least 3 significant ARI events going on today. Will Kayatin is leading a meeting with MSU faculty and staff in preparation for their involvement in PETLL this year. Katrina Slone is leading a group focused on STEM in the region. Kelli Thompson is leading a group focused on STARS (Students Transforming Appalachia with Real Solutions). These are busy and exciting times in the mountains.

Not only this but there are so many other initiatives that are going on in the schools right now due to the ARI grant. Can you imagine what impact this grant will have in the next four years on the students in eastern Kentucky.

I would love to hear what some of our students had to say and their ideas following today’s session with Kelli. How do they envision STARS helping them, there peers and their communities?

I am currently sitting in the STARS introduction and can’t wait to see how my students take hold of this idea of Community Problem Solving and run with it!
