Project Name: A Healthier Tomorrow!

Students on my Junior Division STARS team developed and promoted initiatives to encourage healthier living to improve the well being of citizens in our town. They worked with community agencies to promote and host a 5k foot race and created materials that provided information about healthy eating and exercise habits. They measured a 5K route in our community and painted permanent Bobcat paw prints along the path so that people can continue to enjoy and benefit from the exercise trail for years to come. The route that the students developed included a small unpaved section of grass that connected one of our elementary schools to the middle school. Students have been working with our principal and a local construction group to have pavement donated to complete the route. All proceeds from the 5K race were donated to the Sebastian Middle School Middle Grade Team Animal Welfare project.
