      Student Senate Plan 2015-2016
      Middlesboro Independent School
Members: Noah Brown & Rebecca Prichard

Goals: Our goals are to use Middlesboro High School’s student voices to make our school better.

      School Culture Building-

      Activity 1.) Murals
      • To promote student self-expression, we will have a mural painted in one hallway and above every set of lockers. The mural will be designed by students and approved by the Student Senate members of our school. The main mural will be influenced by our school mascot, our Appalachian setting, and ideas that students are passionate about. The individual murals above the lockers will be designed by each grade.

Activity 2.) Student VS. Teacher Competition
      • Once every semester we will have a small series of tournaments and competitions between students and teachers. These competitions will include ping pong and pool in our Student Service Center, basketball, corn hole, volleyball, and an academic team match. Before each competition, we will have a small pep rally to bring a fun, positive, and excited energy to our student and teacher body.

      Attendance & Behavior-

Activity 3.) RTI Study Hall & Break
      • One Friday every month, students who only missed 1-2 days of school will have a break during RTI. During this break we will have tournaments in our Student Service Center, free food and drinks, and fun socialization. For the students who wish to not participate during the break, there will be a study hall in the library at this time as well for studying and tutoring.

      Activity 4.) Senior/Freshman Mentoring
      • Seniors who apply and are qualified for good mentoring will be assigned 1-2 Freshmen to mentor throughout the year. The Seniors will meet with the Freshmen to help them with class sign ups for Sophomore year, choosing a diploma, career path ideas, and academic tutoring. They will meet throughout the year to keep the Freshman student on track.

Activity 5.) 1 Field Trip Per Semester
      • Once every semester we will take all students who only missed 1-3 days during that semester. The field trip will be to any local favorite and that place will be voted on and decided by the students who can go on the trip.

      Community Involvement-

      Activity 6.) Issue Speaker
      • Once a semester we will have someone in our community who has overcome a life obstacle to come and speak to our student body about their experience. This person may have struggled with a type of substance abuse or social/anxiety/depression problem. This will show our students how people in our community have overcome such things and remind the students they can do the same.

      Activity 7.) Fiction Addiction
      • Twice a semester, a group of students from our school will go to the elementary school in our district to read to the children. We will give out free books, such as Dr. Seuss books for “Read Across America” and other children’s’ classics in order to promote literacy our school system.
