    Students worked with a partner and chose from three cookie recipes. They chose the cookie that wanted to make. They had directions to follow: go shopping for the ingredients, calculate the amount of each ingredient they would need, and how much they would cost to make. We plan a culminating event where students actually bring in their cookie, following the recipe, and swapping with their peers. Stay tuned for an update.

    • I also collaborated with our talented and gifted teacher during this project. We will work together on the culminating event also.

    • After choosing their recipe, students needed to calculate the total of each ingredient they needed.
      5.NF.1-Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators.
      5.NF.2-Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators, using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
      Some students were able to begin learning the concept of multiplying fractions with this activity also.
