For my ARI grant, I received 4 iPods to use along side the Virtual Reality Google Cardboard and the Amazon Echo dot, to engage my students by traveling through history and taking field trips, otherwise, that would be unattainable. Students have gotten to have real-life experiences by reading and studying, for example, the history of pilgrims to America, then relating to pilgrimage of the 21st century through the New York Times’ Virtual Reality app. Students have also integrated VR into a colonization unit, by reading and studying the 13 colonies and implementing that knowledge with science to create colonies on Mars through VR simulator apps. Students love getting to use VR at school, and we are excited to see how else we can innovate VR into our curriculum.
