Although we are in the early stages of implementing this project, the Digital Reader’s Library appears to be a success. The Digital Reader’s Library is a class set of 25 Kindle Fires used to address a number of growing concerns in the classroom. The library has allowed us to create a classroom environment with up-to-date content-heavy literary resources and texts. It has also allowed us as a school to keep up with the digital shift (e-books) that is currently taking place in the book culture. However, the biggest success has been the ability for me as a teacher to create a new stream to publish personalized teacher-created content for the classroom. Because it is digital, I have been able to significantly cut down on the amount of paper copies needed in the classroom. The Digital Reader’s Library has changed the culture of my classroom by creating instant access to literary resources and texts, allowing students access to e-book collections, and developing another avenue for me as an educator to produce personalized content for my classroom.
