I’m very happy with the results of using the Chromebooks to access Immersive Reader (free by the way) in Office 365. Students who were studied for the Action Research grew and became fluent readers. Last school year I just concentrated on sight words. These are definitely important, but when I added their decodable books to the reading centers (on the Chromebooks), the students were very excited to then come to my guided reading center to read to me. That is because they became successful readers! We always assume that the children will have someone to listen to them read at home. This is not so for some kids. I had a child tell me that they had to read to themselves because they had no one to read to at home. Just having this extra part of the reading program has allowed the students to become successful readers despite the lack of attention at home. That has truly blessed me.
