I implemented ZooPhonics in the resource room with kindergarten and first grade students with disabilities. The phonics program uses animals to help children remember the shapes and sounds of the letters, in addition to body movements for each animal letter. I implemented the program in the resource room using Direct Instruction, songs, and games. When looking at 8 individual students— each student increased the number of sounds they were able to produce. Every student also increased in the number of letter names they were able to produce. I also had success with one particular student in regards to reading sight words using the animal cards.
