As I reflect upon the amazing opportunities this school year brought me and my students, I am so thankful to KVEC for helping to provide those opportunities. Just attending the FIRE Summit alone is an amazing experience! Networking with other teachers, students, and educational professionals from our area is a priceless gift that one cannot earn simply from inside the classroom. The amazing displays and presentations given by our extremely talented and gifted(in so, so many areas) students should not be taken for granted, and I am grateful that the presentations were able to be broadcast so as to share as much as possible. My project of The Impact of the Physical Learning Environment on student achievement and behavior has been an eye-opening experience. Long story short, the flexible seating I implemented into our classroom was best used as incentives to promote positive behaviors, and some , such as the yoga ball chairs, were positive in assisting students with their attention concerns. Perhaps, overall, I find it most interesting that not only student mood was enhanced by a more interesting classroom environment, but most adults as well. Students claim they looked forward to coming to school because of the classroom, and felt special because I had chosen seats that reflect their needs. The data indicates that while most students were able to benefit both academically and behaviorally, not all students showed growth over both of these areas .
