Belfry High School Water Research Team to Travel to India

Belfry High School teacher Dr. Chandran (Doc) and four of his Physics students (Hannah McCoy, Carlie McCoy, Aryn Adkins & Austin Dillon) have been competing against ten schools across the state for the opportunity to visit India in June to discuss their water quality findings and research as part of a project from The University of Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and College of Arts & Sciences have received a grant from the US Department of State to implement an international environmental science program with 10 high schools in Kentucky and 10 schools in the Kolkata Consular Region of India.The schools will participate in three online modules related to water quality and conduct a research project. Schools in Kentucky and India will communicate and be involved in research regarding the program’s effectiveness. The Kentucky school with the best research project will travel to Kolkata, India, to present their findings at a scientific conference. Indian students will also travel to the US to present their research.

Dr. Hanley from The University of Kentucky came to Belfry school personally to congratulate the team!

The team from Belfry High School will travel to Kolkata, India in June to present their research on groundwater quality in Pike County.
