Daniel Day Begins as Superintendent of Leslie County Schools

Daniel Day, a Leslie County High School graduate, officially began his tenure as Superintendent of Leslie County Schools on July 1, following the retirement of Superintendent Brett Wilson.

A Hyden native, Day brings more than 15 years in the district as a teacher, administrator, Director of Personnel, Assistant Superintendent, and Chief Academic Officer. He's been part of district efforts on student achievement, school improvement, and community engagement, including the reestablishment of agricultural education and FFA opportunities in the county.

"I'm very proud of Leslie County. It's humbling to lead the district that raised me; I grew up in these schools and later came back to teach here.

I'm excited about what's ahead for our schools. We recently received a $10 million grant for the Leslie County ATC, which will replace our older building with new opportunities for students, and we're in the bidding process now. We're also rolling out a new math program for grades K-8.

Thank you to the superintendents before me for the foundation they've built. I'm committed to continuing that legacy for our students, teachers, and community."

Day's appointment reflects something true across Eastern Kentucky: districts are strongest when led by people who know their communities firsthand. His path from Leslie County student to superintendent of his own home district is a reminder to students that leadership can come from right where they're from.

KVEC congratulates Daniel Day on his appointment and looks forward to continued partnership in support of Leslie County's students, educators, and community.
