Recording History: A Collaborative Project between Belfry High School’s Kentucky Studies Classroom and The Stone Heritage Museum is a grant that is designed to find ways to help students become willing participants within our local community and within our state and nation, promoting positive student citizenship while working with community leaders. This grant will provide my Kentucky Studies students with the necessary technology so that they may work together with members of the Stone Heritage Museum to record stories from the people who helped to shape our community’s history. It will be the responsibility of the students to work with members of the Stone Heritage Museum to determine what work will be most beneficial, such as video-taping interviews with community members, creating historical videos of our community, collecting historical photographs, creating promotional videos for the museum, writing and creating documentaries, and more. Eventually, the data will be permanently housed in the Stone Heritage Museum so that the work of our students can be both shared and enjoyed by everyone who visits the museum. Students will also work to enhance a website that was created for the Stone Heritage Museum by last year’s Kentucky Studies students, providing links to projects they complete this year. This will allow people who cannot physically visit the museum to enjoy the work my students create and to help promote and enhance the Stone Heritage Museum.
