We believe that public education is vital to the future of rural communities in eastern Kentucky and across the country.

KVEC serves 22 school districts in 17 counties in eastern Kentucky and concentrates effort on place-based solutions that are driven by a fierce belief in the region’s community members and an operational mentality of abundance rather than scarcity.

The Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative (KVEC) will achieve a milestone next year. The ringing in of the new year will mark KVEC’s 50th year of service in the region since its inception in 1969.

KVEC will host several events during the coming year that recognize these important 50 years of service as an educational support agency focused on rural K-12 public schools in the heart of Appalachian Kentucky.

A central element of our 50th year emphasis will be the release of a position paper and Call-to-Action that focuses on specific challenges impacting Appalachian Kentucky schools in an economically distressed region. The paper will pose critical questions that may lead to innovative and successful practices that can be replicated at scale in Kentucky and other parts of rural America.

We optimistically advocate for an economic and community development renaissance in eastern Kentucky, where its schools become empowered centers of community transformation and levers for a successful future.
