How has the conversations changed this year? Let me tell you, during our Elementary Meeting today, I was so impressed by the conversations that our teachers were having about the Mathematics Standards and where the material should be covered. By having our teachers focus designing end of the year assessments based on the standards, we are one step closer to designing standards based curriculum for k-2 that not only focuses on preparing our students for state testing in later grades but laying the foundation so that all students will be college and career ready.

This is really big, Jeff. If standards are demanding and tests accurately measure achievement of those standards, then curriculum and instruction will become richer and more rigorous. If teachers teach and assess the standards the results should be higher scores on the state assessments without the perceived need for three weeks focus on test prep and content blitz. Way to go Jackson Ind.
