WHERE I’M FROM
By: Laura Creech
I am from sweet tea, from ajax, and banquet tv dinners.
I am from the holler that twists and curves (curves as you drive)
I am from the bush, roses that are spiky, cabbage, daisies that are yellow as the sun.
I am from eating together at birthday parties and blue eyes, from Joan, Neal, and Susan.
I am from quarreling with family members and cracking jokes.
From don’t go too far and stop running your mouth.
I am from going to church every Sunday to reading verses that I come upon.
I am from Big Stone Gap and blonde hair, soup beans, and cornbread.
From the coal mines my grandfather worked to the last cigarette he smoked. To the swing set I was pushed at the age of five.
I am from the moments that have been captured by photography and memories that I know.6 Comments
