A resource I like to use is ReadWorks.org. This is a free site that offers K-12 reading passages and questions sets. They can be assigned to be completed on line or can be printed. You can search for fiction/non-fiction passages by grade level or lexile level. They include text-based multiple choice or short answer questions that are explicit and inferential. It also includes vocabulary questions and activities. It also has available lessons and units based on trade books you have. Article a Day is a 10 minute daily routine to increase background knowledge, vocabulary and reading stamina. It is easy to assess comprehension strategies and skills you have taught and differentiate as you choose the passages based on reading levels of your students.
