This year I received a grant that lets me focus on reading in math. My students are now able to read about math in the real world. We are also able to take that knowledge and create structures that we find in our everyday lives, thanks to the building sets that come along with this grant. After all the reading, building, and discussion I can see what they learned, using Breakout Boxes for a culminating activity. This grant has allowed me to pull in real world experiences so that my students can understand why we need math and what its used for.
