Empowering Our Students to Stay: Stopping the Export of Our Best Natural Resources – Our Youth

Appalachia has long been a region known for the export of its natural resources. For too long, talented young people have also left the region. With support from a Race to the Top District grant, the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative and its 17 member school districts are working to empower students to stay in the region and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities. The STARS program (Students Transforming Appalachia through Real-world Solutions) helps students become entrepreneurs, policymakers, leaders, and problem-solvers in their schools and across southeastern Kentucky.
