Opportunities with Ozobots: Coding with Colors
I initially had plans to only use the Ozobots with students in grades 3-6th, however my younger students were very interested in them so we gave it a try! Ozobots are great for all ages from Kindergarten all the way up to 6th grade. I have designed my STEAM lab into stations which allows me to work…[Read more]

Do you enjoy being a Paperless classroom? Pros and Cons?

I’m not paperless. Our assessments are online and we do a lot of online and google activities on our Chromebooks, but not totally paperless. We have a few teachers in the district who are. They love it.

Zip Grade is a quick and efficient way to grade lots of papers and allows students to start bubbling in answers on answer sheets (which is a skill in itself). And you get so many scans free. 🙂

Bringing programming to life with Legos
Students loved creating and coding WeDo legos. They worked cooperatively in groups to engineer and build creations by following directions and then coding what they built!

Bringing programming to Life with Lego WeDo has been a wonderful addition to my classroom. I was able to purchase 5 sets and allowed students to work in groups to create and code with the legos. Students were assigned jobs and would rotate jobs- coder, engineer, manager, and piece keeper. Students are strengthening their communication skills and…[Read more]

Scoring distinguished year 1 to distinguished year 2 still shows growth. However what if the actual score of the individual child decreases but it is still under the range of distinguished, is that still growth?

I was able to attend the Assessment and Accountability conference in Louisville and a there were a lot of questions about growth and how it will be calculated. They said they were meeting with a group of people to discuss growth. I was wondering if there were any proposed changes to the growth aspect of accountability?

Johnny Belcher replied 2 years, 2 months ago

What I have heard from the meeting is that Growth will be included still, but tweaks to how it is calculated may happen. Some question about whether growth points should be awarded if a student maintains or only if they improve. This committee will be meeting again to review possible models of change. More to come…

I hope that I interpreted this webpage correctly. It contained a whole wealth of information.

You have hit upon what seems to be the greatest concern with Opportunity and Access, which is resources and the variation between schools. The rich curriculum piece is asking for what is circled in the attached graphic at elementary and the course codes are to come from the listing.
