Scoring distinguished year 1 to distinguished year 2 still shows growth. However what if the actual score of the individual child decreases but it is still under the range of distinguished, is that still growth?

I was able to attend the Assessment and Accountability conference in Louisville and a there were a lot of questions about growth and how it will be calculated. They said they were meeting with a group of people to discuss growth. I was wondering if there were any proposed changes to the growth aspect of accountability?

    • What I have heard from the meeting is that Growth will be included still, but tweaks to how it is calculated may happen. Some question about whether growth points should be awarded if a student maintains or only if they improve. This committee will be meeting again to review possible models of change. More to come…

I hope that I interpreted this webpage correctly. It contained a whole wealth of information.
While reviewing KY’s Uniform Academic Course Codes webpage, I only focused on those at the Elementary Level because I teach at an Elementary School. My first reaction was WOW! This would be ideal for students to have the opportunity to all of these c…[Read more]

I agree… we are constantly being asked to do more with less. My only suggestion that is realistic is to use teacher talents and strengths and use those to maximize these goals.

After hearing Dr.Gusky speak last summer about Mastery Learning, it really opened my eyes to formative assessments. I am new to student data notebooks this year so I know that I have a lot of room to grow. Tony, what all is included in your data notebooks? Also what grades are they used with? We currently use them with 4th-6th grades, but would love for this to expand all the way down to K. I would appreciate any insights on data notebooks that you or anyone…[Read more]

    • I use assessment data from various sources. We use STAR Reading data, Reading Plus data, MAP data, CERT data. We also use a student data notebook to allow students to do self-reflection and set goals. You can set this up using classroom assessments as well, but it has to be consistently used throughout the year to be effective.
