In my opinion, I believe that teaching kindergarten is 80% management, 20% instruction! If you do not have good management in a kindergarten classroom, you will not be teaching and students will not be learning. You must have procedures for everything…lining up, where to put finished work, how to sit and listen to a story, how to transition from Center to Center….and routine! Kids must know what to expect…they like knowing what’s going to happen next…it’s so important to establish these procedures and routines beginning on the first day of school and also to be consistent. I loved teaching kindergarten!
You are definitely right! The upfront time it takes saves so much time in the course of the year!!
