Student Voices of Appalachia: Podcasting from the Elementary Classroom

Our idea to implement podcasts in the classroom came about after talking about the influence and popularity podcasts have on society. It is important to explore trends in teaching and podcasting has become a popular tool in the classroom in all grade levels and across all content areas. This specifically spoke to us since our students are located in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. We are excited for their ideas to be heard, to give them a voice reaching far and wide!
We purchased a podcasting kit complete with mics, headphones, amps, and a laptop to run the system.
We just received our equipment last month, but students are already finalizing their written work and broadcasting is set to begin this month.
Our hope is that literacy skills, student engagement, content knowledge, along with global and digital competence will improve.
