Pikeville Elementary School has gradually implemented a school garden that is providing Project Based Learning for students of all ages. It began in 2013 with a small raised bed that was sown in kale and lettuce seed on one side of the bed and seedlings on the other. We were amazed at the produce we received from the small area! This year our efforts have expanded into 4 raised beds which include: The Salad Bar, The Stir-fry bed, Rainbow Kale and The Cole Slaw Garden. We are excited to see such enthusiasm in the students as they learn why it is important to grow your own food and how it can be done at home…or school!
