North Magoffin County Elementary Students Escaping From Classrooms!

Have you ever wanted to “escape” from your classroom?  That’s what the students at North Magoffin Elementary are doing! The popularity of the “Escape” or “Breakout” game, which requires participants to solve puzzles, decipher codes, and work together, has swept across the nation. Now, with the help of one elementary school teacher, this popular game has made its way into the classroom.

Liz Tackett, Library Media Specialist at North Magoffin Elementary, designed the game that requires students to read a story, drama, or poem and determine its theme using details in the text. Armed with their knowledge of genre style and Chromebooks (purchased through KVEC and the Appalachian Renaissance Initiative Grant), the students work together to solve the assignment and “escape” from their classroom. This activity requires students to use problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative skills under given time parameters and makes for an exciting day for all  involved!
