Owsley County Freezes in School-wide #MannequinChallenge

The Owsley County Elementary School FIREshare Media Club’s 6^th Grade members videoed a “mannequin challenge” at OCES.  Before deciding to do the mannequin challenge they had thought about doing a “lip dub” video to a high energy Christmas song, involving the whole school dancing and lip-synching, showing school pride and highlighting the various extracurricular groups.  But when the students got to thinking about actually dancing and lip-synching in front of their peers and trying to get buy in from teachers on such a project (to culminate during the week before Christmas break, that most harried time of the year) they started to have second thoughts.  They went in a completely different direction, picking an activity that would involve no singing and dancing—no noise or movement at all.  They decided to do an OCES version of the mannequin challenge.  And it was easy to persuade teachers and others to allow them to use a minute or two of instructional time doing something that brought about blessed silence and stillness to their classrooms or workspaces.  Student videographers were Christian Bowling, Autumn Davidson, Kevin Hayton, Allyson Montgomery, Erin Napier, Logan Reed, and Callie Smallwood.
