I read Tom Murray’s blog “Professional Learning that Connects and Empowers Teachers.” I totally agree that personalizing learning for educators is essential for growth. Each educator knows their interest and are aware of individual development needs. Just because it is not logged onto a timesheet does not mean important learning is not occurring. Teachers collaborate with each other all the time exchanging ideas and discussing topics that are relevant to students on social media and in professional learning communities. Another point that hit home is Mr. Murray states that educators need to learn at their own pace. I was reminded of this first hand during a professional development class I conducted last week. Everyone in the room had very different learning styles and needs. We all know that personalized learning is best for our students but it is also best for educators. As educators we are caretakers and so many times we forget to take care of ourselves and take care of the student in each of us. Looking forward to reading Leading Professional Learning!
