    • Our district has had discussion around the Kentucky’s Uniform Academic Course Codes and this is probably our biggest concern about the new accountability system. We are a small rural district with bare bones staff. Every year, our district faces a reduction in funding so the challenge to provide students opportunity and access to all of these…Read More

      • I definitely understand the struggle your school is facing, as mine is also facing it. We have multiple teachers teaching multiple preps (some even teaching 5 preps!), and I wonder how our curriculum development and instruction would dramatically change if we only had 1-2 preps. But like you said, we just simply don’t have the funding to hire that…Read More

    • Whiteboards:
There are many assessment practices that I use that have yielded tremendous benefits for students. The first is a very simple, yet effective practice that I use regularly. After guided practice on an objective, I will use my classroom set of whiteboards to formatively assess students. I will post a problem on the board. Students will…Read More

      • Lucy I am a kindergarten teacher and I use white boards for assessment almost daily. Like you, I will post a problem on the board and have students write the answer and then we all show our answer at the same time. I also dovreading problems and havecstdents sound our words using their boards. There are endless opportunities for assessment using…Read More

    • After reviewing Kentucky’s Uniform Academic Course Codes webpage, our school’s concern is having the time and staff to get all of the required credits, especially with the many dual credit and AP classes offered that many students choose to take in addition to their regular course load. We are worried that students will not have enough room in the…Read More

    • I feel like a broken record since so many others have mentioned standards based grading, but that has been our district wide push this year, and I have enjoyed it. It has created more work for me as I find I am letting kids retake exams and redo papers more than I have in the past, but I like the mastery that comes from it!

      • A lot of work, but like you say a lot of pay off no doubt. Are you entering grades in Infinite Campus differently 1,2,3,4… versus 0-100? If so, does Infinite Campus allow you to alter the grade book to accommodate for this?

        • Yes, we use IC so when a student retakes an exam, for example, I just override the older grade with the newer one!

          • Do you enter in a grade for each specific standard? For example, if the exam covers 6 standards, do the students receive 6 different grades?

    • After Looking over the KUACC and grasping a better understanding, the biggest issues I see are that there is this big push for multiple options and enrichment. We are living in an era in this state where all we do is cut education funding, and as we all know, staff and programs often take a large hit with the cuts. How does a school keep adding…Read More

      • Yes, more with less is the trend. Has us all looking for ways to work together and maximize resources.

      • Yes, working together is the only way our small district will be able to overcome the challenges in the Opportunity and Access. Our staff numbers dwindle every single year.
