So far, so good. After purchasing the items to complete my two grants I have seen that my new students are really drawn in by student choice in lab. I have had some difficulty getting them to “think inventively” early on, but am seeing that transition now.
We have completed the transport and efficiency part of our cell component (dialysis tubing and surface area/volume), but still have two parts to go that bring in cell division (and cancer) and then an activity that shows them the unique variation in different types of cells (microscopy).
As for the Probeware grant, I use that for an energy component that we are developing now. The lab will come a little later, but we are actively in the lessons that lead up to that. AP Biology will be using the ring stands and the probes to in the next couple of weeks. Biology will be using some of the materials this week to complete their leaf disk assay lab to look at transmission of gasses in plants (considering a single probe hook up to monitor temps as a student discussion point).
