This facilitation guide aims to build the capacity of education practitioners to use
available data more comprehensively and effectively. The guide provides grade-, school-, and
state-level education data teams—composed of teachers, administrators, staff, and other
stakeholders—with steps, sample questions, and resources for using data systematically in
education decisionmaking. The guide walks data teams through five key steps in using data for
informed decisionmaking and strategic action: (1) setting the stage, (2) examining the data, (3)
understanding the findings, (4) developing an action plan, and (5) monitoring progress and
measuring success. Templates are provided for data teams to print and use to direct their own
data-informed conversations.
